The descriptor annotation is a stand-alone PBCore element where you can catalog any supplementary information about a media item or the metadata used to describe it. annotation clarifies element values, terms, descriptors, and vocabularies that may not be otherwise sufficiently understood.
The descriptor annotation is envisioned as a Post-it®
Note containing comments or narrative that further explains or documents the descriptions
of a media item. If the pre-defined
elements and sub-elements in PBCore require further explanation, use annotation to present
Additionally, annotation may be useful in cases where
an established controlled vocabulary does not adequately represent
certain qualities of an asset and you wish to embellish your description.
Apply once within its sub-container, pbcoreAnnotation, (which itself can be applied multiple times as needed for each rendition of a media item within the container pbcoreInstantiation)
